learning about WW2....

The girls and I have been studying World War 2 and they are really enjoying seeing our history unfold before their very eyes and I have really enjoyed re-learning about this pivotal event.
One of the ways that I have taught about this war is through movies.....we LOVE movies and I thought: there are some great movies about WW2, what a great way to see it and learn about it, so, we have watched some great videos and will watch Tora, Tora, Tora!: a great movie about Pearl Harbour.
I want to show them "The Big Red One", "Midway", "Patton", and of course, "Saving Private Ryan", which will be very difficult for me, if you know me at all, you'll know why.....
I loved showing them, "Fat Man and Little Boy", the story of the race for the atom bomb.
My dad worked out at Hanford during this time and he has an original copy of the memo sent to the Hanford workers after the war telling them of their part in the nuclear program that helped to end the war, signed by Oppenhiemer himself and the general over-seeing the Manhattan Project.
We will also deal with the Holocaust....."Shindler's List" and I am really looking forward to sharing with them "The Hiding Place" which is the story of Corrie Tenboom and her family's plight in the death camps.
History has always fascinated me in that we can see and understand where we came from, and knowing that helps us to understand where we are going.
