"Flowers for Algernon"

Does anybody remember this book/movie from the mid 70's?????
It starred Matthew Modine as a retarded adult who underwent an experimental surgery to give him higher brain function.
Algernon was the mouse that also had the surgery and became his best friend. Anyway, I remember it as a great book and movie. I found it in the library and I'm reading it with Nevada.
I love sharing things with my girls that I loved when I was their age...keeps me young.(fat chance)
