Family Fitness:

How fit is your family???
If you look at the biblical model for families, you'll see that the father is the head of the home and subject to God's authority. The wife is subject to her husband, cares for the home, takes care of the kids, the kids are subject to their parents, according to the 5th commandment.
Sounds pretty straight forward, to me.
The bible also says that the father is to instruct the children in God's laws as they go along the way.
So, when did we decide as the Church that children are to be taught God's laws by a Sunday School teacher and/or a Youth Pastor????
Seriously, how fit is your family?
When was the last time you sat down with the kids and opened God's Word together???
I'm telling you, as a child of a deacon who NEVER led us in bible study, that we have given our authority to instruct our children in God's laws away to the Church and we can see how the consequences of perverting God's plan have affected the youth in this generation:

80% of our churched kids will fall away from the Lord after graduation.
Our youth groups have dwindled to a very few, and most of them are girls!
Most of our kids look and smell just like the world, claiming to be Christ-followers, yet they really don't change a thing in their life.

The Church has taken away the role of the family, that is, discipling our own children, and it's time to take it back!!!
I'm not suggesting that we fire our youth pastors, but, that we, as families committed to the cause of Christ, come along side of our youth pastors to encourage other families to use a biblical model for discipling our children.
Let us equip fathers in the area of discipling and begin a time in each of our families where we sit and open God's Word as families.
A group of us have begun this journey and it is a beautiful thing, the simplicity of it, opening God's Word and studying together.
Recently, a group of 28 that included 6 families came together in a home setting and just worshipped and studied.
We were so blown away at how good it was; the fellowship, the insight, the worship...it was sweet.
It is how it was intended.
This weekend, we are having the group in our home and we are very excited to see where God will lead us.

"Be still and know that I am God."
