Madame Delgate......?

We just got back from the State Republican Convention in Yakima where we, along with 740 other delegates, were seated to represent our respective counties.
What an amazing experience to see "grass roots" government at its finest.
We met our next US Senator( please, God.......), Mike McGavick, who will, hopefully, (please, God.......) unseat Maria Cantwell in November.
We heard from many of our Congressional leaders; Doc Hastings, Cathy McMorris,
Doug Roulstone, our key note speaker was our Attorney General: Rob Mckenna who was very impressive.
There were some who are running for Congress and the Supreme Court in November and it was good to hear personally from them so when it is time to vote, we can do so more responsibly and more informed.
The afternoon was set aside to vote on the party platform, plank by plank, as it turned out, and it was, although, tedious and long, very fascinating.
It was so interesting to hear how diverse the opionions and the peoples represented, yet, there was one goal, to give the party a platform that is true to its principles; compassionate, limited, and responsible government.
The one thing that was surprising to me was that the platform that we received at this state convention was NOT the platform that we received at the county level; it was better!
I guess I thought the state platform would be less conservative and that I would be less satisfied with each plank, but, that was not the case, at all!
We were talking with some of of our fellow delegated afterwards who shared the same sentiments about the platform and they told us that this is what happens almost every time, and it still surprises them.
Also, surprising and delightful was seeing that our whole row of delegates were christians who are passionate about keeping morality in our politics and our politicians, who, just like us, want to make our communites a better place, one step at a time.
When it was over and we officially adjourned, I told Con how proud I was to be doing something for the greater good, and how I wanted to teach our girls to be involved however they can, and, that someday I hoped that our whole family could be sitting together as seated delegates with one goal, one mission.....
How cool would that be?
What a great day......
So, what's next, Madame Delegate?..........the National Republican Convention in 2 years......that's what I'm talkin' about.

".... and if my people, who are called by My name, humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
2 Chronicles 7:14

my gift....

As I was trying to find my nugget verse from this weekend, I remembered that it is from the King James version, which we don't have in the house....then I remembered that I have my dad's bible that my sister gave to me after he died and so I went looking for it.
I found it and realized that it was not my dad's bible, but, was, actually, my mother's bible that my dad gave to her for Christmas, 1960.
It is inscribed:

Neva M. Shelton

I just stared at it.....I never realized the gem that was hidden away.
As I began to flip through it, I saw that she, too, wrote her favorite verses in the blank pages just like I do.
She also, kept the bulletin from Sunday in her bible, the one I found was dated March 12, 1972.
She died the next week.
The sermon title : Why worry?

God, your timing is impeccable.
Just this weekend, my friend had said to me, that of all the things that she would want her children to have of hers after she is gone, it would be her bible.
Nothing else would really matter.
Gosh, that just stuck with me....and then you gave me my mother's bible and I feel so blessed and cared for.
Thank you, Father, I will treasure it always.

my nugget of Truth....

This weekend was our all girls "Purity Weekend" at the Moffetts cabin on Chinnook Pass.
The cabin was amazing.......the teaching was awesome....the fellowship was endearing.......the girls were...somewhat frustrating.

What did I get from it?

Here it is:

I Peter 2:9----But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

It's my new favorite verse.
I LOVE being peculiar!

My hope and prayer for these girls is that they would crave the word of God and long for His fellowship and that they would despise the world and choose to be holy and blameless, set apart....peculiar.

the best medicine.....?

This world is entirely too serious!
We need intentional belly laughs to propel us through the "cares of this world."
I, personally, intend to be funnier.....you're saying to yourself, "how is that even possible?"
But, I'm telling you, right here and now, I am "raising the bar."
Who's with me?
Anyone? (...Bueller...Bueller..?)
I know, you're asking yourself, " How can I be funnier?"
Well, it's a matter of choice, really.
For example:
Let's say that you are at a garage sale early on a Saturday morning and everyone is bustling about with their Starbucks and biscotti when, suddenly, a woman who was checking out some "gently used" bras and undies, begins to choke on her biscotti.
You have some choices to make:

a. you drop the "hall & oates" album and rush over to invoke the the biscotti from her throat using the heimlich maneuver.
b. you stare with mouth aghast and do nothing.
or
c. you point and laugh....might I suggest a belly laugh. People look ridiculous when they're choking, right?

See what I mean?
It's just a matter of choice......and propriety.
It's taking the.....low road cuz, the highroad is, well, not funny.
I am going to purchase a fart machine and I will go to the mall with video camera in hand to film material universally known as "trailer trash tacky."
Who's with me?
Several decades ago, one of my favorite comedians, Steve Martin, came out with an album called, "The cruel shoes."
Anyone remember this?
It was, at the time, the funniest thing I had ever heard.
Here is Steve's suggestion for being funnier:

"Stand on a piece of baloney....and you will feel wierd..... and funnier."

Try it and let me know how it feels.

come look at my BIG....words.

My mind is buzzing.....I am trying to articulate my thoughts....ok...her goes:

Evolution begat Humanism which begat Capitalism which begat Communism which begat Environmentalists and Atheists which, when all combined, will usher in the New World Order.

Whew! I haven't even finished my first cup o' joe!
Snap!
I've used up all my BIG words for the day....I should've paced myself...now I'm going to sound like everybody else....
More on that stuff up there, later.

youth convention...conference....thing

This weekend is youth conference in Vancouver with speaker David Nassar, who, apparently has this incredible testimony of growing up in a muslim family and his coming to know the Lord.
Those that have heard him speak have told me that his testimony will rock my world....can't wait.

His website is:
davidnassar.com

Also there will be "Ductape", a christian improv group that is not unlike the group on "whose line is it anyway?"
Very excited to come back with some fresh improv tools and games to share with my drama group(the Lifesavers).
I love that whole atmoshpere....even though it is a youth event, it is on the grandest of scales and it is MEATY and fun, the worship is incredible and it is always a huge blessing!!!!
